The playoffs are nearly here and this is a good week to make bets because the best teams are beginning to turn it on in preparation for making a run for the Super Bowl title.
These picks are not heavily researched, just the games on the schedule that look like the best bets for this week in the National Football League against the spread.
Week 15 NFL Free Spread Picks
Tennessee Titans -3 at Houston Texans-
The Titans are a very good all-around team that relies a lot on their defense to win them ball games. But in the NFL, where parity reigns most of the time and certain teams like the Texans are more than capable of springing a huge upset, the Titans don't quite appear to be as good as their record.
They are due for another loss and week 15 seems like the best week to bet on that possibility against a Texans team that is playing with a ton of confidence.
Sure, the Titans are gearing up for a playoff run but they also are mainly trying to stay healthy and not screw things up heading into the NFL's second season.
The Texans had a breakthrough game against the Jaguars a couple weeks ago when they flat-out pulverized a former power and that was a moment where they realized they could beat anybody, even though the Jaguars aren't their former selves.
The Texans have the ability to contain the Tennessee run game and no one fears the Titans' receivers. The Texans will win this game straight up at home.
Indianapolis -17 vs. Detroit-
The Colts are at home this week and the Lions are starting Dan Orlovsky. The Lions have the potential to completely collapse in this game and they probably will because the secondary simply cannot match up with the Colts' many weapons at wide receiver.
Marvin Harrison is playing well again for the Colts and Anthony Gonzalez should see a lot of action and force Detroit to dig deep into their nickel and dime packages. The Lions don't have the defensive back depth to cover all three wide receivers plus Dallas Clark.
Indianapolis will most likely want to blow the Lions out early and get their starters out of the game so they can rest a little bit in the weeks leading up to the NFL playoffs.
Orlovsky is okay at QB for Detroit but he's more of a game manager and if the Lions fall behind he will make mistakes that could lead to even more points for the Colts. 17 points is a big spread for any NFL matchup to bet on but the Lions truly are not an actual NFL team at this point. Pick the Colts.
Washington -7 at Cincinnati-
The Redskins are not a team that usually blows other teams out or wins by secure margins. But Clinton Portis is healthy now and he's angry and motivated after his public spat with Jim Zorn. The Bengals will sell out to stop the run and Washington's speedy little wide receivers will dart past the secondary for some huge plays.
This is the kind of game where the Redskins know they have some doubters to prove and they will come out looking for blood against the Bengals in week 15. It's a game Washington can't afford to mess around in considering the tight playoff race in the NFC right now. Bet on the Redskins and don't look back.
