Week 13 Thanksgiving Day 2008 NFL ActionTitans Beat Lions, Cowboys Beat Seahawks, Eagles Beat CardinalsNov 29, 2008 Justin Harrington
Turkey Day NFL games have become an American tradition. This year, all three games finished in lopsided victories. Here's a look back.
Tennessee Titans 47, Detroit Lions 10The running game of the Titans (11-1), one of the league's best, returned to the field after failing to score in the previous two games and buried the winless Lions. The RB tandem of Chris Johnson and LenDale White, known as "Slash and Dash," struck the league's worst rushing defense early as Johnson ran in his two scores in the first quarter and White added his two rushing TDs in the second. The duo finished with a collective 231 yards on 39 attempts. Their four rushing TDs in Week pushed their season total to 20, most in the NFL. The Lions (0-12) got to showcase to a national audience their potential to become the NFL's first-ever 0-16 team. They'll finish the season with tough games against the Minnesota Vikings, Indianapolis Colts, New Orleans Saints and Green Bay Packers. Of interesting note: Tennessee QB Vince Young entered in the fourth quarter to see his first game action since the team's season opener. He finished 1-for-1 for 54 yards. Dallas Cowboys 34, Seattle Seahawks 9The Cowboys (8-4), now fighting for a playoff spot after looking out of the race a few weeks ago, probably gave thanks that they were playing the pitiful Seahawks (2-10) in their Thanksgiving Day match-up. They likely also gave thanks that Tony Romo is back under center as he led the team to scores on three of the team's first four drives and helped them pick up their third-straight victory. Romo went 22-for-34 for 331 yards and three TD passes. His favourite target was TE Jason Witten who caught nine of his passes for 115 yards and one TD while nursing a rib injury. He also helped Terrell Owens notch his second TD reception in as many weeks. The Dallas defense didn't give Seattle QB Matt Hasselbeck many chances, sacking him seven times and intercepting him once. Seattle's only scores came from three FGs by Olindo Mare. Of interesting note: Dallas LB DeMarcus Ware and RB Marion Barber both left the game with injuries. Ware recorded three sacks and Barber rushed in one TD before exiting the game. Ware (knee) has been listed as probable for the Cowboys' Week 14 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Barber (toe) is questionable. Philadelphia Eagles 48, Arizona Cardinals 20Less than one week following his benching, Donovan McNabb returned as the starting quarterback for the Eagles (6-5-1) and showed the coaching staff and Lincoln Financial Field faithful what they might be missing should he not be wearing a Philadelphia uniform next season. McNabb finished 27-for-39 for 260 yards and four TDs in what was easily his best game of the season since Week 1. He threw no INTs after being picked off seven times over the team's previous four games, including three times last week against the Baltimore Ravens. Equally as impressive as McNabb's was performance was that of RB Brian Westbrook. Westbrook rushed for 122 yards and two TDs and caught two of McNabb's TD passes. It marked Westbrook's first 100+ yard rushing game since his 167 yards against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 8. Week 8 was also the last time Westbrook found the end zone. Philadelphia's defense was stellar, picking off QB Kurt Warner three times and holding the star receiving duo of Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin to a combined 128 yards. The Cardinals (7-5) can still clinch the NFC West if the San Francisco 49ers lose to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. The Eagles will likely have to win their last four games of the season to have a chance at a berth in the playoffs. Of interesting note: Westbrook's four TDs were the most for an Eagles player since WR Irving Fryar scored four in 1996.
