Planning a trip to the Super Bowl? Here is some advice on how you can make your experience painless and cheap.

Road trips are exciting for any fan, since they can show home town pride thousands of miles away, but none so large as the Super Bowl. But tickets and last minute travel can seem like a daunting task. There are ways to get good deals on tickets and travel by following some easy steps.

Discount Airlines

Like any other trip, it’s important to make sure that you book your Super Bowl trip well in advance to get the best prices. Depending on the airline you plan to deal with, and how far you’re traveling, the prices may be very reasonable. Try booking on-line to see if you can get a combo deal for your plane ticket, your hotel room and your rental car if you need one.

Depending on your budget, a discount airline might be the answer. Airlines for low-budget travelers in the United States include JetBlue, Southwest and AirTran. More upscale airlines include Delta, United and U.S. Air, all of which can offer good deals if you book your flight early enough. The site of each Super Bowl is always determined several years in advance, which allows plenty of time to plan ahead.

Hotel Discount Rates

When you book your hotel room, try and make your reservation over the phone rather than on-line, so you can explain the purposes of your Super Bowl trip in more detail. Very often hotels will ask if your trip is for business or pleasure (including on-line bookings). Talking to a hotel representative live will give you the chance to find out if they are offering any discounts for guests who are in town for the Super Bowl.

How to Buy Super Bowl Tickets

If you are a season ticket holder in your hometown, you are no doubt friendly with other season ticket holders in your section that you know and trust, and who might also be going to the game. You might consider asking them to join you in order to split some of the travel costs, and to hopefully make the trip more fun.

Tickets themselves might be the hardest to find because of the high demand. The best course of action would be to buy them as soon as they go on sale. If you are at the Super Bowl to support the home team, and are a season ticket holder, you might be offered deals from the team to their faithful (similar to the first choice to buy playoff tickets). Check with your ticket representative to find out if such a deal is possible.
