Build Your Parlay

Three picks for Week One in the NFL.

Not sure which team you are going to pick to complete that three-game parlay? Don't want to pay the fees the "experts" charge that dip into your wallet, even when your parlay falls apart, and ruins your Sunday afternoon? Don't trust the chain e-mails from companies trying to sucker you to their website, or the sportsbooks they are affiliated with? Well, look no further. The Parlay Helper asks for nothing in return, other than sharing in the joy of you winning your parlay.

Chicago +6 ½ @ San Diego

Norv Turner didn't get an easy draw with the Bears coming into town for his first game. Coach Turner inherits a very talented team, but don't forget he is only 58-82-1 as a head coach. It is no easy task finding a way to score on Urlacher and company. Expect the Bears to give San Diego's offense as much trouble as anybody will this year. Take the points.

San Francisco -3 vs. Arizona

Frank Gore exploded last season to become an elite running back. This year look for Alex Smith to make a significant jump. San Francisco's offense will have a big day with the Cardinals putting their 3-4 defense to use for the first time under new head coach Ken Whisenhunt. The Arizona defense was weak last year, and don't look for too much improvement, especially this early in the year. Go against the team with the new head coach on the road. Smith and the Niners will avenge the two losses to Arizona a year ago.

Tennessee + 7 @ Jacksonville

Jack Del Rio is on the hot seat in Jacksonville. The Jags may have panicked by getting rid of Byron Leftwich, after naming him the starter in the off-season. But David Garrard has performed well in the past when he has replaced the oft-injured QB, and the Jaguars always were high on him, refusing to give him up even though many other teams were in hot pursuit of him. However, David Garrard's last start against Tennessee was poor ( 22-for-37, 3 INTs) and the Jacksonville receiving corps has major problems. No receiver has stepped up and set himself apart from the rest and the combination of Matt Jones, Ernest Wilfork, Dennis Northcutt, and Reggie Williams isn't scaring anybody. The Titans will key in on the Jacksonville running attack and try to contain Maurice Jones-Drew. Vince Young will have his hands full with the Jacksonville defense, but don't expect much scoring in this matchup, and look for Young to keep Tennessee close all game, with a good chance to win this one outright.
