Terrell Owens' Signing Could Result in a Playoff Appearance

Between the suspension Marshawn Lynch for the first three games and the acquisition of Terrell Owens, 2009 should be an interesting season for the Buffalo Bills.

Last March, the Cowboys released Owens after spending his last three seasons in Dallas. In the 47 games he played in for America's Team, he brought in 235 receptions for 3,587 yards and 38 touchdowns. His numbers may have been phenomenal, but the drama surrounding Owens, whether it was in the locker room or on the football field, was too much for Cowboys owner Jerry Jones to handle.

What Can We Expect From Terrell Owens?

It's obvious that Owens is one of the most talented wide receivers in the NFL. His work ethic and desire to stay in excellent shape puts him on a completely separate level from the rest of the receivers in the league, which was the reason why the Bills decided to take a chance on him by signing him to a one-year deal worth $6.5 million.

Along with Lee Evans, third-year quarterback Trent Edwards will have plenty of weapons on offense between him and Owens. Evans has been one of the main go-to-guys at wide receiver over the last couple of seasons. His quickness and speed may give him an advantage this season, especially if opposing defenses are making Owens their prime target.

So what should the Bills expect from Owens this upcoming season? Well, there is every reason to believe that he will put up big numbers as the Bills new No. 1 wide-out.

The good thing for the Bills bout the Owens' signing is they have nothing to lose. Even if he puts up his usual numbers, the decision on whether or not to bring him back next season may depend on his famous behavior we have seen with previous teams, such as the Cowboys, Eagles, and 49ers.

One thing about Owens is he is well-known for making headlines. Recently, he started his own reality show called The T.O. Show, which can be found on VH1 Monday nights. He also released a statement earlier this week regarding Michael Vick, stating that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is treating him unfairly by suspending him again after his reinstatement.

Can The Bill Stay Consistent Through All 16 Games?

Last season, there were talks surrounding the Bills representing the AFC in Super Bowl XLIII after an impressive 5-1 start. From there, they went on to lose eight of their next 10 games, finishing the season with a 7-9 record.

It's hard to figure out the reasoning behind the Bills collapse last season. One thing is certain; the Bills should have no problem staying consistent in 2009. That is assuming that their key players can stay healthy.

It has been nine seasons since the Bills last made a trip to the playoffs. The acquisition of Terrell Owens should help Edwards stay more consistent on offense, who has recorded at least 1,100 yards receiving in seven of his last nine seasons.

The only problem the Bills may see early on in '09 is the absense of running back Marshawn Lynch. He is suspended for the first three games this season due to violating the league's personal conduct policy.

It seems that all of the pieces of the puzzle are beginning to fall into place up in Buffalo as the upcoming season approaches. However, they do play in the AFC East, which is argueably one of the toughest divisions in football. Not to mention Tom Brady is returning to the Patriots after missing the 2008 season due to an ACL injury.

Fans shouldn't forget about Chad Pennington either, who helped the Miami Dolphins pull off the greatest single-season turnaround in NFL history. After finishing the 2007 season with a 1-15 record, Pennington helped lead the Dolphins to an 11-5 and a NFC East title.
