The National Football League draft has finally arrived. Here is my take on the first 15 selections which will take place tomorrow at Radio City Music Hall in New York.
Stafford Goes to Detroit1. Detroit Lions - QB - Matthew Stafford - Georgia Stafford should bring stability to the most important position on the field. Has opportunity to sit and learn for a year while Culpepper takes the snaps. 2. St. Louis Rams - LT - Jason Smith - Baylor Despite the fact the Rams have interest in QB Mark Sanchez from USC, they decide on improving the offensive line due to the release of veteran Orlando Pace in the offseason. 3. Kansas City Chiefs - LB - Aaron Curry - Wake Forrest Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli decides on linebacker to anchor the middle for the next 10 years. 4. Seattle Seahawks - QB - Mark Sancez - USC The Seahawks have had their eye on Sanchez for months now, and he falls to them at number four. 5. Cleveland Browns - WR - Michael Crabtree - Texas Tech The Browns look to be rebuilding yet again. Rumors continue to surface of wide receiver Braylon Edwards to eventually be leaving town. Quarterbacks Derek Anderson or Brady Quinn need someone to throw to. 6. Cincinnati Bengals - LT - Eugene Munroe - Virginia The Bengals lost T.J. Houshmanzadeh in the off season to the Seattle Seahawks and might be inclined to replace him but make the right move in improving a suspect offensive line. 7. Oakland Raiders - WR - Jeremy Maclin - Missouri There has been speculation the Raiders reach for wide receiver and ultimate speedster Darius Heyward Bey, but opt for the more polished wide out. Good move on their part. 8. Jacksonville Jaguars - NT - B.J. Raji - Boston College The Jags had trouble rushing the quarterback last season and believe Raji's quickness and skill-set at the nose tackle position fits the bill for them. LSU Jackson Rises Up Draft Boards9. Green Bay Packers - DE - Tyson Jackson - LSU The Packers are switching to a 3-4 defence and believe Jackson, who is a hybrid, can move to various positions and would be an ideal pick. 10. San Francisco 49'ers - OT Andre Smith - Alabama The 49'ers, upset at the fact that Maclin is no longer on the board, decide to beef up the offensive line in hopes of recharging a running game that consists of game changer Frank Gore. 11. Buffalo Bills - OT - Michael Oher - Ole Miss The Bills, who recently dealt disgruntled LT Jason Peters to Philadelphia, are in dire need to replace him, so they decide on Oher, the next best OT in a draft that is loaded with them. 12. Denver Broncos - DE - Brian Orakpo - Texas The Broncos need all the help they can get when it comes to defence, so Orakpo, who is considered to be the best pass rusher in the draft by many, heads to the 'Jay Cutlerless' Denver Broncos. Freeman Goes to the Skins13. Washington Redskins - QB - Josh Freeman - Kansas State The Redskins, who were in the Cutler sweepstakes, feel quarterback Jason Campbell has not lived up to expectations thus far and decide on Freeman as a project for years to come. 14. New Orleans Saints - CB - Malcolm Jenkins - Ohio State The Saints who reportedly have interest in a runningback Chris Wells is all but a smokescreen and decide on help for their secondary. 15. Houston Texans - OLB - Clay Mathews - USC The Texans are building a nasty linebacker core which includes Demeco Ryans and Xavier Adibi but need the outside linebacker to complete the nasty threesome. Great move by the Texans.
