Scouting The NFC West
Predicted order of Finish: Seahawks (11-5), Rams (9-7), 49ers (8-8), Cardinals (6-10)
Seattle Seahawks
A team stacked with high profile veterans coming off of injury/down seasons look at 2007 as a chance to regain their place on top of the NFC. Shaun Alexander and Matt Hasselbeck are both heading into 2007 healthy and determined to get back to the Super Bowl as the Seahawks did in 2005.
The Achilles heal for Seattle will once again be; on offense the meshing of the offensive line, if this group can come together and both protect Hassleback and make holes for Alexander then the sky is the limit for this offense. Deion Branch should benefit from more time in the system, and D.J. Hackett could be an X-factor in making this passing game go.
On the defensive side; year after year Seattle tries to go deep into the playoffs and the defense seems to come up short. This year by addressing the safety position with Deon Grant, from the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Seahawks hope to have filled the biggest need on defense. The front seven holds up every year for the Seahawks, this year the cornerback position is as deep as it has been, as young players have gained experience playing behind injured veterans in the past. In 2007, both corners enter the season healthy and that should strengthen the secondary for the Seahawks.
Coach Mike Holmgrem has the experience at guiding a team to the Super Bowl (his 1997 and 1998 Green Bay Packer teams), and believes this edition of the Seahawks are ready to make another run at the big game in 2007. Overall, this team, with its combination of young talent and returning veteran star power should be tough to beat for the NFC Western Divisional Crown.
