Both the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys had convincing victories in Week 1. The two squads will face off on September 20, at the Cowboys new stadium in Dallas.

Both of the two NFC East teams have high expectations for the 2009 season. Sunday, September 20's game in Dallas will represent a major test for each team, and it will be the first NFL season game played in the brand new Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, Texas.

New York Giants in Week 1

The game between the Giants and Cowboys will be very exciting following the Giants home win over the Washington Redskins in Week 1. Eli Manning played very well in his first season game in 2009, with 20 completions out of 29 pass attempts for 256 yards, and a touchdown (despite a second half interception). The Giants racked up 103 yards rushing, the main carriers being Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs. The team had a number of receivers in on the action as well, including the second year man out of Michigan, Mario Manningham, who scored the only touchdown from an Eli Manning pass. Steve Smith and tight end Kevin Boss were also major receivers. The defense of the Giants fared very well against the Redskins offense, although turnovers were a problem for both teams because of defensive pressure.

Dallas Cowboys in Week 1

The Dallas Cowboys' quarterback Tony Romo was good for 16 completions out of 27 attempts, although this statistic is bolstered by Romos' three touchdown passes, and his total of 353 passing yards, without any interceptions, which earned him a passer rating of 140.6 (which is very high). Romo's main target was Patrick Crayton, who caught one of the quarterback's passes for a touchdown, while Roy Williams and Miles Austin received the others. Tampa did have more first downs and a convincing time of possession, but Dallas averaged much greater gains per play. Kicker Nick Folk was good on every one of his attempts, successfully booting the ball through the uprights each time.

The Cowboys will play their first season game at their brand new stadium on Sunday, where they will host the New York Giants. As both of the teams' quarterbacks are coming off major games from Week 1, to say the very least, it should be a high powered game. The two young passers are among the very best in the National Football League, and this rivalry game between the Giants and Cowboys will serve as the first matchup against a fellow NFC East team for the Dallas Cowboys in the 2009 season. It is the late game on Sunday, and the victor will secure the top spot in the division if Philadelphia looses to New Orleans.

Although it is still very early in the season, the rivalry game of the Giants versus the Cowboys will perhaps be one of the best matchups of the year. The teams will play again on December 6 at Giant Stadium.
