The Super Bowl Champion Indianapolis reload their roster as the Houston Texans try to move in a new direction with the players they drafted in the 2007 NFL Draft
Houston Texans
If the Texans’ draft has taught me anything, I have learned that apparently David Carr was the reason the Texans had such a miserable season. Well, that is an article for another day…on to the draft. Amobi Okoye may end up being the Defensive ROY, with his never ending motor and freakish physical attributes, Amobi will cause problems for offenses immediately. Extremely talented, small school standout, Jacoby Jones can make an instant impact with his electrifying return skills. If he can raise his concentration to a level of consistency, he could see considerable time as a wide receiver.
Fred Bennett may be the next in a line of quality corners from South Carolina. Fred has to become a more physical at the point of attack especially with his impressive 6-1 frame. Versatile strong safety Brandon Harrison, will definitely see the field this year, hopefully he can take advantage of his opportunity. I wonder if Brandon Frye can play left tackle, there has to be an opportunity on one of the worst offensive lines in the league last year. Kasey Studdard also has a shot, as it should be open tryouts for all offensive line positions. If Zach Diles can excel on special teams he can make the roster.
Indianapolis Colts
This is one instance in which the rich get richer; the Colts have managed to defuse the “Super Bowl Exodus” of players signing for other teams for big money by drafting 2 potential (strong potential) starters and a new slot receiver. Daymeion Hughes will fit perfectly in Tony Dungy’s cover 2 defense, sliding in at corner across from Marlin Jackson. Tony Ugoh will push for playing time; his biggest obstacle will be learning the playbook. Anthony Gonzalez will begin his career as the third receiver in the most explosive offense in football. Gonzalez will easily adjust to the pro game because he has an outstanding work ethic, and his football IQ is impressive.
Quinn Pitcock should settle in as the third defensive tackle behind Booger McFarland and the resigned Raheem Brock. Clint Session is a very athletic linebacker that just might surprise some in camp as he competes for the outside linebacker spot opposite Rob Morris. An intriguing pick is wide receiver Roy Hall. Hall is a big receiver that would look very good spit wide when Indy goes to four wide receiver sets. Brannon Condren from Troy will be playing behind a rising star at safety in Antoine Bethea. Michael Coe will join a crowded secretary and it will be difficult for him to make an impression, but he will get a chance. Keyunta Dawson is a long shot to stick with the Colts this year.
