Favre Not Getting Any Love in MinnesotaCertain Vikings Players Think Favre is Not the Answer
After an abysmal performance against the Kansas City Chiefs, Brett Favre is losing the support of his teammates. Is it too soon for the Vikings to press the panic button?
ESPN.com reported on Wednesday that “sources with knowledge of the Vikings' locker-room dynamics” said some players think Tavaris Jackson, or even Sage Rosenfels would give the Vikings the best chance at winning. On Friday, Favre played two series and went 1 for 4 for 4 yards against the Chiefs. This was definitely not the start the Vikings were hoping for when they signed him just two days prior to the Chiefs game. However, this is only the preseason and a lot can change in two weeks. Besides, this is what the preseason is for…getting your feet wet so come the regular season you are prepared. Players Are Quick to Blame FavreThe players that have already sided with Jackson or Rosenfels are being too impatient with Favre. While Favre is one of the top quarterbacks in the game, he is also one of the oldest. He can’t play the game like he could eight or nine years ago. It will take him some time to get into the rhythm of the game and get comfortable with his new receivers. If the Vikings start winning games, all of these suspicions will go away and no one will admit they had any doubts about Favre being the starting quarterback. However, at the same time, if Favre starts the season off 0-2, the pressure will be on head coach Brad Childress to make a change. Jackson and Rosenfels Are UnreliableAlthough Favre gets himself into a lot of trouble by throwing a lot of interceptions, he is one of the more reliable quarterbacks in the league. Jackson and Rosenfels can not even begin to compare to Favre. Last season, Jackson was benched numerous times in favor of Gus Frerotte. The Vikings are looking to end their quarterback problems, and by making Jackson the starter, it will only make the problem worse. However, Jackson did throw eight touchdowns and only two interceptions in his last five games last season according to espn.com. But the Vikings need someone they can count on for an entire season, not just part of it. Rosenfels also had limited playing time last season with the Houston Texans. He was 2-4 as a starter with six touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He is also very unreliable and will not be the answer to the Vikings’ problems. The Vikings will play the Texans on Monday night. Look for Favre to prove that he is ready to lead this team. If he fails to impress on Monday, or Sept. 4 against the Dallas Cowboys, you may see Jackson or Rosenfels in week 1.
