In a win over the New York Giants, Favre broke the record of most wins by a quarterback in NFL history.

Throughout his career, Brett Favre has remained humble when asked about his mind-boggling list of NFL records. In sixteen years with the Green Bay Packers, he has consistently stated that he is more concerned with winning for his team than with achieving personal statistics. His latest record seems to speak to that attitude.

On Sunday, September 16, 2007, Favre threw three touchdown passes to lead the Packers to a 35-13 victory against the New York Giants. The win was the 149th of Favre’s NFL career, edging him one game victory past Hall of Famer John Elway.

Favre tossed a two-yard pass to Packers tight-end Bubba Franks in the opening series of the third quarter. He also threw three and ten-yard passes to Donald Lee and Donald Driver, respectively, and finished with 286 passing yards for the game.

The prolific quarterback is also one of the sturdiest, starting 239 straight games, the most ever for his position. Since becoming Green Bay’s starting quarterback on September 20, 1992, Favre has led the Packers to ten postseason appearances, including six division titles, three NFC Championship Games, and two Super Bowls, including a victory in Super Bowl XXXI. He has played in over 240 NFL games, the greatest number for any Packer player, and is the league’s only three-time MVP, as voted by the Associated Press.

Favre remains the NFL’s all-time leader in pass completions. He is second in passing yards, attempts, and touchdowns behind former Miami Dolphin Dan Marino. With Favre’s current TD pass record at 417, he is sure to surpass Marino by the end of the season.

While Favre’s name will forever be a part of the NFL history books, he will likely be remembered as one of the most exciting quarterbacks to watch in the history of the game. His offensive knowledge and physical ability were evident from early in his career, and at age 37, it is still the love for competition that brings Favre back for more each year.

In 2006 Favre topped the Harris Poll as the “favorite football player” among American sports fans. He placed “third among all sports figures, behind Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan.” He is a beloved favorite of Packer fans and it appears the appreciation is mutual. In 2001 Favre signed a “lifetime” contract with Green Bay, saying, “I enjoy it here. I don't want to move. I enjoy the fans and I just want to stay. I couldn't envision myself playing for another team.”
