After an NFL offseason filled with rumors regarding another comeback, quarterback Brett Favre has signed with the Minnesota Vikings and is already on the practice field.

After retiring for the second time last season after playing with the New York Jets, Brett Favre came out of retirement for the second-straight season by signing a deal with the Minnesota Vikings. The deal is expected to be worth around $10-$12 million.

For most of the offseason, rumors had swirled around the Vikings that Favre was interested in playing for the team in 2009. After months of trying to figure out what he wanted to do, Favre made the announcement at the end of July that he would stay retired and not enter training camp with the Vikings.

Now, he will enter as the Vikings' No. 1 quarterback and could be playing as early as this weekend when the Vikings play the Kansas City Chiefs.

Favre retired in 2008 after leading the Green Bay Packers to the NFC Championship game against the New York Giants. A few months later, he returned to the NFL by signing with the New York Jets a few months later.

According to numerous reports from ESPN, Favre waited until now to come out of retirement because he did not want to participate in training camp and spend nights in the dorms. Even though this may make some of his new teammates unhappy, Favre will most likely be welcomed with open arms as the veteran leader for the Vikings in 2009.

Before his one-year stint with the Jets last season, Favre spent the previous 16 seasons playing with the Packers. He is the only player in NFL history to win the AP Most Valuable Player award three years in a row (1995-97) and helped the Packers win Super Bowl XXXI against the New England Patriots.

Minnesota Vikings Quarterbacks

Now that Favre is out of retirement for the second-straight season, this means Vikings head coach Brad Childress has a new leader at the quarterback position.

For the last three seasons, Tarvaris Jackson has had his chance to make a significant impact as the Vikings' starting quarterback. Unfortunately, the three-year run has not been as successful as he desired.

Over the last three seasons, Jackson has played in 25 games with the Vikings, only passing for 3,442 yards and 20 touchdowns. There are other quarterbacks in the NFL--Arizona Cardinals Kurt Warner and Dallas Cowboys Tony Romo for example--who recorded better numbers last season alone than Jackson has throughout his career.

After the Vikings traded for quarterback Sage Rosenfels during the offseason to compete for the starting job, it seemed as if the team was not 100 percent confident with Jackson as their quarterback.

Now, it appears both players will be playing behind No. 4 this upcoming 2009 season with the Minnesota Vikings.
