Brett Favre Coming Out of Retiremen AgainIs Favre Returning to the NFL For the Right Reasons? The three-time NFL MVP may be coming out of retirement...again. However, after a disappointing end to last season, is Favre making the right decision?
After finishing 1-4 in his last five games and being unable to get the New York Jets into the playoffs, Favre is once again looking to suit up and make a run for the Super Bowl. However, this time he wants to do it with the Green Bay Packers’ NFC North rival, the Minnesota Vikings. According to ESPN.com, Favre performed “in a rigorous throwing session that included an estimated 100 passes.” Despite working out for the Vikings, Favre said that he will not come back unless he is confident that he can start every game during the season. Favre had arthroscopic surgery done six weeks ago to release the partially torn biceps tendon in his right arm. Favre Retires for the Second TimeIn February 2009, Favre told the Jets that he was retiring. Favre said there were many things that went into this decision, but the most important thing was the current condition of his shoulder. He even said that surgery was an option, but did not want to take the risk of how it would affect his play. Fast forward to June 2009, Favre has decided to go with the surgery in hopes of playing again. Favre did admit that he may have come back to play for the Jets for the wrong reasons. He said since the Packers did not want him, he felt like he needed to prove to the Packers he could still play. Favre Talks with VikingsShortly after his arthroscopic surgery, Favre spoke on “Joe Buck Live” about coming back to play for the Vikings. According to ESPN.com, he said the Vikings would be a perfect fit because he is familiar with their offense. Now that he is possibly coming back a second time, is Favre again coming back for all of the wrong reasons? It’s possible that Favre does not want to end his career on a disappointment. However, it seems awfully coincidental that he could be playing for a team that would face the Packers twice during the regular season. The Jets did not face the Packers at all during the season last year. Maybe Favre wants to extract some revenge from his former club. Either way, the Vikings will benefit greatly from this ordeal. They have been unable to find a suitable quarterback since Daunte Culpepper. Having a great quarterback like Favre would lighten the load for Adrian Peterson and give the Vikings a more balanced offensive attack. Favre has said that if there was any doubt he would not be healthy the entire length of the season, he would not come back. However, we have heard this speech from him before. The Vikings open training camp on July 29. Maybe this will finally be the end to the never-ending Brett Favre story.
