One huge surprise in the early picks as teams pick for need in this year's draft.

On the 26th and 27th of April the NFL will hold its annual draft. The future of many young men will be made and broken over this weekend. There are a few surprises in the first 14 picks of the first round as the best player takes an unexpected fall. This draft is assuming Miami makes the pick.

1. Miami Dolphins Glenn Dorsey DT (LSU) – the need to add youth to the defense overshadows every other need on this team. This pick, not necessarily this player will be traded by Miami.

2. St. Louis Rams Jake Long T (Michigan) – the Ram offensive line couldn’t protect anyone that lined up behind center, and Orlando Pace’s body is beginning to wear down after a hall of fame career.

3. Atlanta Falcons Matt Ryan QB (Boston College) – The Falcons had to bring Chris Redman back (from selling insurance) to finish the season.

4. Oakland Raiders Chris Long DE (Virginia) – a legacy pick, and a very good one, as this non-stop pass rusher will bring a heat on every play from the end position.

5. Kansas City Chiefs Sedrick Ellis DT (USC) – already with a young QB (Croyle), and LJ returning from injury the Chiefs address another need (help is needed at offensive line) with the best available player at a needed position.

6. New York Jets Vernon Gholston DE/LB (Ohio State) – the J-E-T-S, managed just 29 sacks on the season, and got no pass rush from the front four, problem solved.

7. New England Patriots Mike Jenkins CB (South Florida) – with Asante Samuel contemplating a move and teams picking on Randall Gay, a move at corner makes sense. It’s not as if the Pats have needs.

8. Baltimore Ravens Leodis McKelvin CB (Troy) – if McKelvin proves at the combine to be the complete corner he is on tape the Ravens pick up a much needed player for their defense.

9. Cincinnati Bengals Dan Conner LB (Penn State) – the Bengals need help at the linebacker position in the worst way, as they couldn’t hold leads later in games. Conner comes in ready to play from day 1.

10. New Orleans Saints DaJuan Morgan S (North Carolina State) – the Saints need to draft a complete secondary, in Morgan, they will get a playmaking safety that can both cover and tackle.

11. Buffalo Bills Limas Sweed WR (Texas) – the Bills offense needs someone that can consistently take the heat off of Lee Evans and force teams to cover the whole field against the pass.

12. Denver Broncos Ryan Clady T (Boise State) – with the retirement of T Matt Lepsis, this is a must pick for the Broncos. The Broncos will address the defense with their next picks.

13. Carolina Panthers Jeff Otah T (Pittsburgh) – the Panthers need to find a way to keep Jake Delhomme healthy for a whole season. Otah is still raw, but his upside is tremendous.

14. Chicago Bears Darren McFadden RB (Arkansas) – the Bears welcome the best player in the draft with open arms, correcting their Cedric Benson over Thomas Jones mistake.

Picks 15-31
